The Church of Saint John the Baptist is one of the most valuable heritage buildings of South Bohemia. The gothic church was founded gradually from about 1250-1275; the chapel of Saint Nicholas is considered to be an exemplary gem of gothic architecture in South Bohemia. The exquisite ornamentation of the church is ranked as the most important example of Czech mural painting from the mid 14th century. In the interior of the church there is a precious early baroque altar, renaissance and baroque pews, a pulpit with a statue of Saint John the Baptist and many tombs. The most valuable is the late gothic tomb of Magdalena of Gleichen.
